Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the nutritional status and examine the relationship between nutritional attitude and body mass index (BMI) in 10–14-year-old female students.
Method: A descriptive correlational design was used. The statistical population consisted of all girls aged 10–14 years. Based on Morgan’s table, 350 individuals were selected through cluster sampling. Data were collected using the standard Eating Attitude Test (EAT 26) and BMI (weight and height measurements). Pearson’s correlation coefficient was employed for data analysis (significance level P < 0.05).
Findings: A significant negative correlation was found between nutritional attitude and BMI (r = −0.162, P < 0.05), indicating that more negative nutritional attitudes (tendency toward unhealthy eating patterns) were associated with higher BMI.
Conclusion: The findings suggest that nutritional attitude is a meaningful factor associated with BMI. Promoting positive nutritional attitudes may help in maintaining normal weight and preventing obesity among adolescent girls. Therefore, educational interventions focusing on improving nutritional attitudes could be an effective strategy for weight management in this age group.
