[English]

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the effects of sleep deprivation on blood sugar levels, lipid profiles, and anaerobic capacity in trained young men.
Method: Twelve male athletes were purposefully selected. The study was conducted in two stages: a control stage and an experimental stage, with a one-week interval between them. In the control stage, participants were examined after 12 hours of fasting and 8 hours of adequate sleep. In the experimental stage, they were examined after 12 hours of fasting and 24 hours of complete sleep deprivation. Blood sugar and lipid profiles (LDL and HDL) were measured using a Global 4500 autoanalyzer (Italy), while anaerobic capacity was assessed through the RAST test. Changes in blood sugar concentration and lipid profiles between the two control and experimental stages were analyzed using a paired t-test at a significance level of p<0.05.
Findings: The results indicated that the anaerobic power of athletes under sleep deprivation conditions was significantly lower compared to those who had adequate sleep (p=0.002). At the same time, no significant changes were observed in blood sugar levels (p=0.679), LDL cholesterol (p=0.676), and HDL cholesterol (p=0.729).
Conclusion: A 24-hour period of sleep deprivation resulted in a significant decrease in the anaerobic power of trained young men. Athletes require more sleep than inactive individuals due to their unique physiological demands. It is advisable to avoid sleep deprivation, as it can significantly limit physiological performance.
