Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between dietary supplement use and body composition and general health (physical and mental) among bodybuilding athletes in Tehran.
Methods: This cross-sectional study had a descriptive-correlational design. A non-random sample of 370 bodybuilding athletes aged 21–35 was selected from gyms in Tehran. Data were collected using the General Health Questionnaire and body composition tests, and analyzed using Pearson’s correlation and regression.
Results: Dietary supplement use was positively and significantly correlated with body composition variables and physical and mental health. The participants’ mean body mass index, waist-to-hip ratio, and body fat percentage were reported to be within the desirable range. The results also indicated that dietary supplement use influenced body composition and general health and could predict these outcomes.
Conclusion: The findings highlight the importance of dietary supplement use and its positive associations with aspects of body composition and general health—physical and mental—among bodybuilding athletes. They may help guide the development of preventive and educational policies in public health and sports.
