Background: Metabolic syndrome is associated with vascular dysfunction and adverse alterations in gut microbiota, contributing to significant health complications. Objective: This study examined the effects of combined time-restricted eating (TRE) and resistance training on vascular health and gut microbiome composition in patients with metabolic syndrome.
Methods: In a 12-week randomised controlled trial, 60 participants were allocated to four groups: Combined TRE and resistance training ,TRE alone, Resistance training alone, Control group (no intervention).
Results:The combined intervention group demonstrated significant improvements in arterial stiffness (reduction of 1.8 m/s in pulse wave velocity [PWV]), increased short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), and decreased trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO). In contrast, the control group showed no changes. These findings support the synergistic efficacy of the combined intervention. Conclusion: The integration of time-restricted eating and resistance training may serve as an effective therapeutic strategy to enhance vascular health and modulate gut microbiota in individuals with metabolic syndrome.
